Smithfield, a charming town in the heart of North Carolina, in a gesture of deep respect and honor, conferred upon Grand Master Dr Andy Mencia 8th DAN the title of Honorary Citizen in recognition of his visit and participation in the Global Open Kukkiwon Cup Taekwondo Championships 2023.
The internationally renowned sporting event brought athletes from around the world to compete at the Smithfield Recreation & Aquatics Center Smithfield-Selma High last weekend, September 29th and 30th.
The city's Mayor, M. Andy Moore, presented the certificate of Honorary Citizenship to the Grand Master, praising his unquestionable commitment to the sport that has inspired not only Smithfield's youth and athletes, instilling a renewed passion for Taekwondo. In an emotional acceptance speech, GM Dr Andy Mencia expressed his deep gratitude for the honor received. He praised Smithfield's hospitality and its residents' dedication to promoting Taekwondo. Furthermore, he reiterated his commitment to continue supporting the local community and spreading the principles of Taekwondo throughout the world.
Smithfield's Certificate of Honorary Citizenship now holds a prominent place in the Grand Master's life, reminding him daily of the town that welcomed him with open arms and recognized his significant contributions to the sport and community.
